Lu’um rugs are unique creations made by talented artisans, each one of them is considered a piece of art due to the work that goes into it.
The rugs come from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, MEXICO; a region that is rich in culture and tradition, this small town has gained a big reputation thanks to their ancestral and traditional way of making rugs.
There are many elements that allow Lu’um rugs to become a true hand-made product.
The first step is the selection of high-quality wool, this will later be carved and spun. The artisans will then proceed to dye the wool with natural elements. Finally, artisans start weaving in a traditional loom, the designs are inspired in their story, traditions, and culture.
Not a single design will ever be the same, the hand-made process and the stamp of each artisan will always make their creations different and with small, but unique faults, and this is one of the main reasons why this art is so special and has been in this town for centuries.
